The Phytochemistry is a specialty derived from the Pharmacognosy and chemistry is the study of herbs.

The Phytochemistry is very important for the determination of the active ingredients of medicinal plants, their quantification and analysis of the beneficial and harmful effects to human health.

The Phytochemistry deals with methods of obtaining these active ingredients, their classification according to the functional organic chemical group to which it belongs, and studies the analytical methods to verify its quality.
